Bid to abduct schoolgirl foiled in Barisal

A bid to abduct a girl student from the Ziaur Rahman Girls'High School campus at Palaspur in Amanatganj here was foiled jointly by local people, guardians, teachers and students on Saturday.Police and witnesses told this correspondent, a ruling BNP cadre Shahin,18, offered love to a 13-year-old student of class seven, Lipi. On refusal, Shahin along with his armed associates Alamin, Jony, Rubel, Shamim and others stormed the school to abduct her from there. At once panic gripped the school. After hearing a hue and cry of teachers and students local people and students' guardians rushed there. They jointly chased the miscreants and forced the culprits to leave the school. At least four persons were also injured during the incident. Lipi's cousin Razu was rushed to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMC) in a critical condition. After the incident, agitated students, guardians and locals brought out a procession in the city. They paraded in front of the Superintendent of Police (SP) office and demanded immediate arrest and punishment to miscreants. However, no case was lodged and none was arrested till filing of this report in the evening on the day.
