Four rapists get life in Rangpur

Four rapists were awarded life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) in absentia by a court here on Saturday. The convicts are: Altaf, Sattar, Shah Alam and Hasem Ali. Another accused Fazlul Hoque who died in 1997 was acquitted of charge. Two poor girls Marjina and Sufia Khatun of Ulipur upazila in Kurigram came to Rangpur in search of jobs on October17, 1995. They took shelter at Babupara in the town at the house of an acquaintance. That night five persons named Shah Alam, Fazlur Rahman, Altaf, Sattar and Hasem Ali of Rangpur station area raped Morjina one after another at arms point. As the convicts are absconding, the verdict will be executed from the day of their arrest, announced the judge of Rangpur Special Tribunal for Women and Children Repression, Mollah Mostafa Kamal.
