Shirin, a 14-year old girl of Bandhan Kharikbhanga village of Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon, was found hanging from the ceiling of a room at the house of businessman Faruk Zamil on Sunday morning. She was working as maid at the house of Faruk.

Her body bore marks of human nail scratches and bites on the face, hands, breasts and lower part of her body.

Shirin was strangled after rape and torture at Faruk's house on Sunday morning, police said.

Faruk's wife Sharmin Sultana Dipa was produced yesterday before the first class magistrate Yusuf Ali's court that recorded her statement under the Section 164.

In her statement, Dipa confessed that she strangled Shirin out of anger as she found her having sex with a local boy at her house, investigation officer Sub-Inspector Kafiluddin said.

Police arrested Dipa and her husband Faruk, picked up their three other maids-- Gul Nahar, Bulbuli and Rita and two local youths Raju and Milton for interrogation.

Different socio-cultural organisations staged demonstration demanding proper investigation into the incident.

Rajshahi Mohila Parishad formed a human chain in front of the Boalia thana in the afternoon and Rajshahi Human rights organisations and local people took out processions.

"She (Shirin) was tortured before her death. We are suspecting that she might have been also raped", IO said.

"Besides, environment of the spot of occurrence does not make us believe that Shirin can hang herself alone from the ceiling fan," he added.

The local people said wife of Faruk often tortured Shirin.
