Jamaat leader killed in Naogaon


Alleged operatives of the banned Islamic outfit Zama'atul Mujahidin hacked to death a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader in Niamatpur upazila in Naogaon on Friday night.

Maulana Abdur Rahman, 35, a Rokon of Jamaat, died from his wounds on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after being attacked by a gang of 10.

The assailants swooped on him at around 7:30pm when he along with his five-year-old son Asadu-zzaman Nur were returning home from Adda Bazar in Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj by bicycle.

A local police officer said before his death Abdur in writing accused Azimul, Palash, Yahiya, Salim and Matibur of attacking him.

Police arrested Tozammel Hossain in connection with the killing.

Jamaat Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami and local leaders of the party condemned the killing.

Zama'atul Mujahidin has a history of terror attacks in different areas.
