The court also served a show cause notice on the National Board of Revenue (NBR), asking why the notice imposing court fee on applications and an increase in fee for power of attorney "should not be declared to be without legal authority".

The High Court Division of the Supreme Court issued the rule nisi on March 25 following a writ petition filed by President of High Court BTL MA Salam Talukdar.

The NBR earlier had increased the rate for issuance of power of attorney from Tk 10 to Tk 20 and imposed a court fee for receiving certified copy.
