10 killed, 57 hurt in road mishaps in 4 dists

At least 10 people were killed and 57 injured in road accidents in Bogra, Tangail, Kisjoreganj and Comilla on Thursday and Friday. Our Bogra Correspondent reported that at least four persons were killed and 20 injured, six of them critically, when a Kurigram-bound BRTC bus (Dhaka-Metro-BA-11-2038) hit a standing truck (Dhaka-Metro-TA-11-2350) from behind at Talipukur on the Bogra-Dhaka highway in Bogra Sadar upazila Friday night. Two of the dead were identified as Abdus Samad, 60, of Hazipara village under Ulipur upazila in Kurigram district and Shahinur, 25, son of Azizar Rahman of Damadarpur village under Pirgonj upazila in Rangpur district. They died on the spot. Two others died at Bogra Mohammad Ali Hospital, where some of the injured persons were admitted. Police seized the two vehicles, but their drivers escaped. Our Netrakona Correspondent reported that three persons were killed on the spot and 35 injured when a Nagorpur-bound bus from Dhaka, hit by a truck, fell into a roadside ditch at Kuni in Mirzapur upazila in Tangail district on Thursday. Identity of the dead could not be known. Fourteen of the injured were admitted in to Kumudini Hospital, police said. In another incident, schoolgirl Rahima Khatun, 6, died on the spot when she was run over by a bus at Janata Bazar on Kishoreganj-Bhairob road on Friday. Our Comilla Correspondent reported that 35-year-old Dilwara Begum and her son Kaiser, 5, died at Chandina hospital after their rickshaw was knocked down by a bus (Noakhali BA-11-0002) on the Dhaka-Comilla highway at Chandina on Friday. She is the wife of one Abdul Hakim of Noagaon village under Debidwar upazila, police said. Her 10-year-old daughter Nargis Begum and the unidentified rickshawpuller were admitted to the hospital with critical injuries.
