Uro Binodon Bichitra Award 2003
Mustafa Monowar, Anwar Hussain and Runa Laila honoured for their life time contribution


The Winter Garden of the Sheraton Hotel teemed with media personalities on March 26. The occasion was hosted by the fortnightly entertainment magazine Binodon Bichitra to mark their first Uro Binodon Bichitra Award 2003 with the collaboration of Globe Soft Drinks Ltd. The 55 awards in three major categories-- TV, film and music including three Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to the best performers of the country.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards went out to eminent artist and TV personality Mustafa Monowar, the veteran Bangla movie star Anwar Hussain and the very popular and famous singer of this sub-continent Runa Laila.

Said a jubilant Mustafa Monowar: 'I am very happy to get recognition for my work. I feel glad that the audience still enjoys good and tasteful works like Strir Potro, a drama based on Tagore's novel.'

Legendary singer Runa Laila echoed the same sentiment. As she said: 'Every award I get is important. Usually people get this life time achievement award at the end of their career. For me it's just the beginning and I want to keep on singing.' As Anwar Hussein was not present due to illness, it wasn't possible to get his reaction to the award.

The evening began with a homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War. Anchor Anjam Masud read the welcoming speech on behalf of President Iajuddin Ahmad. The state minister of cultural affairs, Begum Selima Rahman was the chief guest, while the publisher of Binodon Bichitra Dewan Habibur Rahman, Binodon Bichitra's founding editor Chinmoy Mutsuddi, Chairman of the Globe Soft Drinks Ltd. Harun ur Rashid were the other speakers.

The cultural show was followed by a documentary film. The film was based on acid victim Shahnaz who lost both eyes. Kumar Biswajeet and SI Tutul sang Tumi Eka Nou Aamrao Achhi Tomar Shathe for her and called her on stage. She was given a cheque for Taka 20,000 by film personalities KMR Manjur and Jahangir Alam. A few members from the audience like actors Aruna Biswas, Helal Khan and others also announced a handsome amount to help her.

Then popular singers Asif and Kaniz Shuborna came on stage as anchors and called Ishita and her husband Arif Doula to announce and present the awards on TV commercials. Tisha won the best female model for Citycell while Nobel won as her male counterpart.

Best commercial and best commercial maker as well went for the Citycell. Shakila Zafar and Badshah Bulbul sang next while Shahed and Rumana performed a dance.

The evening's best anchors Shomi and Ferdous presented the awards on TV Drama which was divided into three catagories drama, drama serial and telefilm. Amjad Hossain gave away the awards on drama. Afsana Mimi won the best actress while Shahriar Nazim Joy won the best actor award for the drama category. Other awards were succeeded by Mamunur Rashid for best producer (Kothar Kotha), best cinematography Bipul Raihan, best director Ejaj Minna (Kothar Kotha) and others. After this Rabi and Ankhi's duet and Joy and Deepa's composition with the songs Chakvum Chakvum, Oh Aamar Roshyaa were well appreciated.

Then came Shomi and Ferdous, with their witty comments and banter, to present the awards on TV serials and this time they called Tareq Anam to present the awards. Shomi herself won the best actress award for her magnificent acting in the serial Shornojan while Aly Zaker won the best actor award for the same serial. Masum Reza also won the best playwrights for the same serial. Faizu Kobiraj won the best serial and Sajjad Hossain Dodul won the best director award for Mukhosh. Salahuddin Lavlu won the best cinematography for Ronger Manush.

On the telefilm categories Strir Potro won the best telefilm award which was produced by singer Shuvro Dev and directed by Mustafa Monowar. Golam Farida Chhonda won the best actress for Strir Potro and Tony Dayes won best actor for Redoypurer Golpo. Renowned actor Toukir Ahmed won his first ever award as a director for Uttarpurush. Bipasha received the award on his behalf.

Promising actor and actress awards which are introduced in this year were given to Shaju and Mukti. Music Plus also awarded the promising music programme awards. Hanif Shanket got the special jury award for anchoring while Chandan Sinha was awarded for Drama Title for Joar Bhata.

After a magnificent dance by Monalisa; Daleem and Tanima took the stage as anchors to present the awards on Film categories. Kumar Biswajeet won the best male play back singer for the song Protiti Minute Protiti Second of the film Dui Bodhu Ek Shwami while Baby Nazneen won the female award. Kazi Hayat won the best playwright for the movie Andhokar and Mahfuzur Rahman Khan won the best cinematography award for Chandrakatha. Chashi Najrul Islam awarded best director for the film Hason Raja while Moner Majhe Tumi was selected the best film of the year. Shomi Kaiser once again snatched the award for best actress for her role in Hason Raja from Shabnur, Purnima and Moushumi. While receiving the award the astonished actress dedicated her first ever film award to her uncle the legendary Zahir Raihan. Helal Khan won the best actor for the same film. Ferdous won the most popular artist award and Shabnur grabbed the special jury award.

In the music category, Ayub Bachhu once again won the best male singer (band) and Prometheus won the best band award. Soundtek grabbed the best production house award.
