Band group Pentagon features Srabonti

Band groups featuring female artistes right now is a very up-to-the-minute element while organising musical events. Nevertheless, amongst the bunch, few actually deliver tasteful music for the audience.

Fortunately for invitees at a private party in Gulshan, the team up of Pentagon and Srabonti Narmeen Ali etched itself in one's memory as an evening to remember.

Srabonti began with a solo rendering of Tagore songs and then, in conjunction with Pentageon, went onto western and soul genre of music. Her Rabindra Sangeet songs included Ami Hridoy-er kotha bolite bakul and Mon-ey robey kina robey amare. The sweet and slight husky-ish vocal combination wowed the audiences with her straight-down-the-line magnetic songs. A Bangla modern song and the famous Hindi soundtrack Kabhi kabhi followed next. Later that evening, she introduced the band members. Together they performed You're still the one by Shania Twain, the famous Righteous Brother's ballad Uchained Melody, Thank You by Dido and Don't know why by Norah Jones with her fruity voice. Cover of the U2 track With or without you and Every breath you take by Police were perfect--looking well positioned for a round of applause and it did!

After her set, Pentagon performed a Santana track as well their own Brishti. The songs performed were immensely Latin and songs with groovy bass, admirable lead guitars, lively drums and percussion along with gripping vocals. Their songs were as alive as their energetic performance.

Srabonti's performance will encourage other talented female singers to step forward and be heard by the public. While our music industry is crammed with more commercial and less passionate musicians, Srabonti's music taste seemed fresh and was well appreciated by the music admirers of that night.
