Police reshuffle to soup up security in Apr


The Wednesday's decision for police reshuffle was made as a part of the government plan to tighten up security and anti-crime measures in response to the April-30 deadline set by Awami League for the BNP-led coalition to relinquish power, sources said.

The transfers of three additional deputy inspector generals (Add'l DIGs) and 28 superintendents of police (SP) followed an exclusive meeting between the prime minister and the state minister for home affairs Wednesday afternoon.

Police officials said the changes were made based on reports of different intelligence agencies and more changes were in the offing to tackle the country's political situation this month.

"We have received specific complaints against some of the officials from local lawmakers and leaders of the ruling alliance," said a home ministry official.

According to the intelligence reports, the opposition parties have already finished their preparations for subversive actions in some strategic zones and some of the police officials are loyal to the opposition, he added.

He said, through the reshuffle, police officials deemed loyal to the present government were posted in important and sensitive area.

The changes made Khulna Range Add'l DIG Shamsuddoha Khandaker an officer on special duty (OSD) and Add'l DIG on special duty Nayeem Ahmed commandant of Police Training College in Tangail, replacing Mohammad Motiar Rahman, who was transferred as Add'l DIG to Rajshahi Range.

SP S M Hafizur Rahman was transferred from Faridpur to Shariatpur, SP Mohammad Saiful Alam from Kishoreganj to Kushtia, SP Biswas Afjal Hossain from Magura to Chittagong, SP M Shafiqul Islam from Gopalganj to Panchagarh, SP M Abdus Salam from Kushtia to Rangpur, SP M Fazlur Rahman from Barguna to Naogaon, SP Mallik Fakhrul Islam from Bhola to Kishoreganj and SP M Sohrab Hossain from Habiganj to Faridpur.

Commandant of PSTS in Betbunia M Rafiqul Islam was transferred to Gopalganj as SP, SP of Chittagong Mahbubur Rahman to Police Headquarters as AIG, SP (OSD) M Motiur Rahman to Bhola as SP, Commandant of APBN in Mahalchhari M Mahfuzul Islam to Barguna as SP, Special SP of Dhaka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Mohammed Abdur Rahim to Satkhira as SP, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Police Commissioner (DPC) Mohammed Nazibur Rahman to PSTS in Betbunia as commandant, Special SP of Dhaka CID M Aktar Ali to Narail as SP, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) SP M Moinul Islam to Rajbari as SP, Rab SP S M Ruhul Amin to Jhalkathi as SP, Rab SP M Rafiqul Islam to Police Headquarters as AIG, Rab SP M Helal Uddin Badri to Dhaka Special Branch (SB) as special SP and Police Headquarters AIG M Moinur Rahman Chowdhury to Barisal as SP.

Rangpur SP M Manzur Kader Khan, Naogaon SP M Obaidur Rahman Khan, Rab SP M Mazharul Haque and Special SP of Dhaka SB M Zahirul Islam Bhuiyan were transferred to the DMP as DPCs.

Jhalkathi SP Sheikh Hemayet Hossain Mia and Barisal RRF Commandant M Anwar Hossain were transferred to Rajshahi Metropolitan Police as DPCs, Rab SP M Delwar Hossain Mia to Dhaka SB as special SP and Barisal SP M Mohsin Hossain to Dhaka CID as special SP.
