Dhaka slates Israel PM's statement

Bangladesh yesterday strongly condemned the recent statement by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to assassinate Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and said that Israel would be solely responsible for any consequences of such an act."Bangladesh also condemns the Israeli police attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites in the city of Jerusalem, and firmly believes that the sanctity of the holy places should be respected, irrespective of any religion," said a foreign ministry release. It called upon Israel to stop attacks forthwith against the Palestinians and strongly demanded that Israel should withdraw its forces from the occupied Palestinian and Arab territories immediately. Bangladesh also urged the world community and the UN Security Council to put pressure on Israel for immediate resumption of the peace process in the Middle East.
