Two BNP candidates are campaigning for the post of municipality chairman. They are district BNP general secretary advocate Mahfuzul Haque and another BNP leader, also an ex-commissioner of Netrakona Pourasabha Abdul Wahab Bhuyian. At present the leaders and workers of the ruling party are also divided.

Meanwhile, Tafsiruddin Ahmed was selected as the AL chairman candidate. But Nazrul Islam Khan, another prominent party leader declared himself as the chairman candidate and began election campaign. Many leaders and workers of the party back him to make Nazrul winner in the election.
