Ctg Arms Haul
Dhaka to share information with Delhi

Dhaka will share 'substantive' and 'conclusive' information with Delhi on the April 2 arms haul in Chittagong, Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan said yesterday.

"We understand India's concern over the arms haul," Morshed told the press after an hour-long meeting with Indian High Commissioner Veena Sikri Sikri at the foreign ministry yesterday.

Without specifying if he discussed the weapons haul with the Indian envoy, the foreign minister said, "The government has formed a high-level investigation committee on the Chittagong arms haul. When this committee comes up with its findings or when we reach a conclusion, we will inform India about it."

He dismissed Indian press reports that the Chittagong arms recovery was possible because Indian intelligence had informed Bangladesh about it. "Arms haul is our own primary concern. We have our own system of vigilance and our own intelligence. There was no external involvement in the weapons haul in any way."

Replying to a question whether the government was contemplating involving the Interpol in the investigation, he said, "When the necessity comes, we will not leave any option (unexplored)."
