JCD men beat up journalists during looting

Police failed to make any headway into their probe into Friday's assault on four people including two journalists allegedly by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal ( JCD) cadres while ransacking and looting a drug store.

Reporter of the Sangbad Baki Billah, who was among the four attacked and injured, was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMUH) last night as his condition deteriorated. He was put in the intensive care unit in an unconscious state.

The other victims are Daily Star correspondent Shaheen Mollah, owner of the drug store Moshiur Rahman Liton and his employee Alamgir. Liton was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Witnesses said some 20 JCD activists of Shahidullah Hall of Dhaka University beat and injured them as they tried to resist the activists' bid to take way medicine without paying the price. They also looted cash from the store located near the DMCH.

Baki fell unconscious yesterday evening and was shifted to the BSMMUH from the DMCH.

The DMCH Medicine Market Owners Association kept their shops closed yesterday to protest the attack and demanded arrest of the attackers in 24 hours.
