JS body cautions ministers about making pledges

A parliamentary standing committee yesterday cautioned cabinet members about making indiscriminate pledges at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).

Reviewing the assurances made by the minister in charge of primary and mass education ministry at a meeting, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Government Assurances asked ministers to be careful about giving assurances to countrymen.

Abdus Sobhan, committee chairman, said the JS body has found that the minister in charge of the ministry made five pledges in the current parliament without fulfilling any.

Ministers gave 33 pledges in the seventh parliament, only 12 of which were implemented, he added.
