Campaign to ensure quality primary edn

The primary and mass education ministry yesterday launched a communication campaign to raise awareness among teachers and guardians to ensure quality primary education.Bangladesh has achieved success in enrolling a large number of children in the primary schools but the quality of education has to be improved, said Prof. Jahanara Begum, advisor to the prime minister on primary and mass education, while inaugurating the campaign in the city. Dr James Jennings, chief of the Child Development and Education Department of the Unicef, said lack of commitment and awareness of some teachers and guardians are the main obstacles to ensuring quality education. The countrywide campaign could be very effective to increase the level of awareness among teachers and guardians, he said. Dr Jennings also called for enrolment of working children to make the primary education campaign a success. Akther Ahmed, director of the Ideal Project of the ministry, said people of all strata of the society have to be involved in the campaign to improve the quality of primary education. Md Rafiqul Islam, acting secretary of primary and mass education ministry, also spoke. The communication campaign started with the active support from the Unicef.
