Transport strike in Gaibandha today

Gaibandha motor owners' association and Gaibandha motor truck workers' union jointly gave an ultimatum to go on transport strike from today if the BRTC coaches are not stopped from plying along the Panchpir-Chittagong and Shaghata-Nilphamari routes immediately.

Both the unions alleged that BRTC buses had been plying as per sweet will creating unrest among transport workers. Transport leaders further alleged that BRTC local representatives violated a contract signed with private bus owners about operation of state-owned buses from local bus terminals.

Despite protest from the motor owners' association BRTC introduced anew long route coach services from Panchpir of Sunderganj to Chittagong and Shaghata to Nilphamari with effect from April 9.

The two unions took the decision in a joint meeting held here on April 14.
