Trade in trouble
Molla Mohammad Shaheen, Dept of English, DU
The business community is in peril. The prevailing law and order does not support the businessmen. Corruption, extortion, abduction and killing are the main obstacles on the way to smooth business activities. The top businessmen are the main targets of the hoodlums. They are the victims of the major criminal acts. Lately, a fabric magnate of old Dhaka and his son were killed brutally. The MD of KEPZ was shot and an employee of Fu Wang was killed in Chittagong. Recently, Chittagong, the port city, has become the hotbed of crimes. It has a collateral impact on economy. This situation may thwart the flow of FDI. The government should wake up from the deep slumber to salvage the business community.
