Parcel scares US embassy staff

The US embassy staff in Dhaka yesterday panicked mistaking a magazine parcel for a carrier of explosives.

Alarmed at receiving the parcel weighing 7.5 kilogram, which was delivered by an unknown man at 2:30pm, the embassy staff informed Badda police who later called an army explosives experts team.

Opening the cover at 8:30pm, the explosives experts found 25 defence magazines and some candles posted for the embassy staff, said Officer-in-Charge of Badda Police Station Omar Faruq.

The parcel from Washington was mailed to GPO Box 323, Dhaka-1000 with attention to Fazlur Rahman, DAO of the US embassy.
