Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina yesterday warned the BNP-led alliance government of a 'grim future' if it does not step down by April 30.Addressing a rally in Manikganj, she claimed there is a massive support at home and abroad to the deadline her party has set for the government to quit. "People have voiced no-trust to this government by responding positively to the deadline." In an oblique reference to the coalition government, the AL chief said, "If they cling to power by force even after April 30, their future will be very grim." The district unit of AL organised the rally in Manikganj Govt Devendra College playground to drum up public support for the AL's movement to bring down the government. Hasina, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, alleged the huge arms cache seized recently in Chittagong came from the 'masters' of the alliance government by a ship owned by Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and was unloaded at a jetty, which is under a ministry headed by a collaborator (Razakar). She claimed people want an end to the terror the government has unleashed in the country through its armed cadres. "We will not allow the country to be ruined by such a misrule," she announced. The leader of the major opposition party also accused the government of indifference and not providing enough relief materials to the tornado-hit people in Netrokona and Mymensingh. She asked the leaders and workers of her party to intensify and get ready for an all out movement to overthrow the government. AL Manikgonj district unit President Golam Mohiuddin presided over the meeting, where AL presidium members Amir Hossain Amu, Motia Chowdhury and Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, General Secretary Abdul Jalil MP and Joint Secretary Obaidul Quader also spoke. Abdul Jalil said the four-party alliance that pledged to wage crusade against violence and corruption before the last general election, instead, has destroyed the country. Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir said the BNP came to power forming alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami, which directly opposed the Liberation War and collaborated with the Pakistani occupation forces. He demanded a ban on communal politics. Motia Chowdhury said the coalition government has no right to hold on to office any more, as it has failed to control price spiral of essentials and live up to people's expectations. Obaidul Quader alleged Hawa Bhaban was "a centre of extra-constitutional power, where the ruling alliance harbours criminals." He said, "Let us move together to free people from the misrule of the BNP-Jamaat alliance and restore democratic rule. Unity of pro-liberation, progressive and secular forces is a must to put an end to this corruption and violence."
