Ashraful on payroll

Mohammad Ashraful was rewarded for his recent performance in the tour of Zimbabwe as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to include him in its payroll.

Ashraful, the youngest cricketer to score a Test century -- on debut -- will be the 12th cricketer to get a contract from the Board.

The 20-year-old middle-order batsman will join Habibul Bashar, Khaled Mahmud, Khaled Mashud, Mohammad Rafique, Rajin Saleh, Alok Kapali, Tapas Baishya, Javed Omar, Mushfiqur Rahman, Hannan Sarker and Mashrafee-Bin-Mortuza.

A meeting of the BCB's advisory committee yesterday, presided over by board president Ali Asghar made the decision.

The cricket committee has been asked to finalise his salary and grade, informed advisor Reazuddin Al Mamun.

It also discussed India's reluctance to tour Bangladesh this year.

Sourav Ganguly's men who won the three Tests and five ODIs in Pakistan, were due to visit here in April.

"We will suffer financial losses if India don't fulfil their commitment. We are keeping in touch with the Indian board and if needed, we will seek the ICC's help," Mamun said.
