EU-Asia talks continue under shadow of Myanmar
AFP, Straffan
The European Union and Asia were to wrap up annual talks yesterday overshadowed, not for the first time, by EU distaste over the military dictatorship ruling Myanmar. Foreign ministers from the two regions were due to hold a morning session of talks on a wide range of issues including terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, North Korea and the Middle East peace process. The talks chaired by the EU's Irish presidency involved ministers or deputies from the rest of the bloc, seven members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) plus China, Japan and South Korea.
