6 PCJSS men abducted in Rangamati


Gunmen abducted six activists of Parbatya Chattragram Jono Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) from Borkol and Naniarchar upazilas of Rangamati on Thursday and Friday.

Locals said 30 armed cadres allegedly belonging to the anti-peace treaty United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) drove to Digholchhari village Friday midnight and looked for rival PCJSS supporters.

The gang picked up Bono Bihari Chakma, 40, Sadhan Chandra Chakma, 36, Ranjan Kumar Chakma, 34, and Mongol Kanti Chakma at gunpoint, locals added.

The gang also kidnapped primary school teacher Anil Chandra Chakma, 30, following a feud with him when they were leaving the area, witnesses said.

They freed Mongol at around 1:30pm the next day and also demanded Tk 5 lakh ransom for release of the four others.

Raiding Shoileshwari village under Naniarchar upazila Thursday morning, alleged UPDF men kidnapped Arun Baran Chakma, 32, another PCJSS activist, at gunpoint, sources said.

The armed gang left the area firing gunshots, they added.

However, local police said none reported the incidents to them.
