Hasina to cut short US visit

Leader of the Opposition in parliament and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina is likely to return home on May 12 or 13 cutting short her 10-day visit to the United States.

Hasina was to return on May 16 but she cut short her programmes in America following the assassination of her party lawmaker Ahsanullah Master.

"She's trying hard to catch the first available connecting flight from the US to Dhaka through London," AL Joint Secretary Obaidul Kader told The Daily Star last night.

Hasina left Dhaka for the US on May 6. The AL chief, accompanied by AL presidium member lawmaker Zafar Ullah, met her daughter and son at Miami during the visit.
