Abdul Mannan Sheikh, 45, was stabbed by Nurul Alam Potol during an altercation that ensued after Alam demanded Tk 40 from him at his shop, police said.

As Mannan refused to pay, Alam picked up a quarrel and hit him in his neck and chest with a knife at about 11.30am.

Critically injured Mannan was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors declared him dead, hospital sources said. The body was sent to morgue for autopsy.

A case was filed with Kamrangir Char police, but Alam went into hiding after the incident.
