New US ploy

It does not take much imagination to understand why all of a sudden the US administration has decided to allow Baathist generals into the New Iraqi army. To many, it may look like a virtue of showing flexibility, but in fact the aim is to contain the growing Shiite influence and resistance in an attempt to create a balance of power.

When Hoshyar Zebari, the Iraqi Foreign Minister and a veteran Kurdish leader, said that the lack of consistency in the policy of the US will be seen by Iraqis as a weakness, he was either misinformed or had no idea how the political chess game is played.

The end losers will be Iraqis, of course.
