ADB to fund 2 power units


Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide fund to set up two power generation plants each with 450 megawatt at Sirajganj and Meghnaghat in Siddhirganj.

Besides, ADB has also shown interest to provide financial assistance to the private entrepreneurs for installing power transmission line of Power Grid Company, Bangladesh (PGCB) from Ashuganj to Sylhet.

The assurance came from a three-member delegation of ADB, led by Director of Private Sector Department S Chandar, when they met State Minister for Power Iqbal Hasan Mahmud at the secretariat yesterday, said an official release.

During the meeting, they discussed releasing shares of Dhaka Electric Supply Company (Desco) in the share market, reconstitution of its board and necessary steps to make it more dynamic.

The delegation expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing reform programme in the power sector.

Power Secretary SM Shamsul Alam, Chairman of Dhaka Electric Supply Authority (Desa) and Desco Brigadier General AAMA Rob, Desco Managing Director Saleh Ahmed and Senior Finance Specialists of ADB Mats Elerud and Chief of Energy Division Shamsuddin Ahmed were present in the meeting.
