Who is going to be the next victim?

A selfless, patriotic and populist leader, Ahsanulla Master MP of the AL, who had proved himself as a champion of ballot and won the respect of rival political leaders, became the victim of the bullets of the merciless killers. A gap in the leadership thus created can hardly be filled up. We strongly condemn the heinous killings that took a toll of a few innocent lives. May their soul rest in peace and may Allah give the bereaved family and friends the moral strength to withstand this irreparable loss. The incident triggered the passion of AL supporters. They failed to check their instantaneous outpourings and out of a revenge spree launched a massive mayhem as vividly delineated in your daily(in its issue of May 8,2004). The destruction made upon the public and private property was colossal indeed, and it cost a huge sum of money. The law enforcing agencies should try their best to arrest the assailants and arsonists.

As a routine task, both the BNP and the AL are trying to blame each other and the AL called a 'hartal' in protest. We can only assert that the government cannot avert its responsibility to stop killing and ensure security of people's lives.
