Paper mill owner, 4 others die in road crash

Five people, including an industrialist of Chittagong, were killed and another was injured in a road accident at Anarpul in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj district yesterday.Hospital sources said the accident occurred at about 2:00pm when a private car plunged into a roadside ditch while it was trying to save a passerby. The dead are Shamsul Islam, 55, owner of Meghla Paper Mill and Hardboard Company in Chittagong, his father-in-law Ahmed Hossain, 70, mother-in-law Umme Kulsum, 60, brother-in-law Bulbul, 25, and the passerby, aged about 24. Shamsul Islam, Umme Kulsum and the passerby died on the spot while Ahmed Hossain at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital in Dhaka and Bulbul at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The injured car driver, Belal, 30, is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The victims were returning to Chittagong from Munshiganj.
