Chuadanga thru' too


Chuadanga became the penultimate qualifiers for the final round of the Sher-e-Bangla Cup 22nd National Football Championship with a 2-1 win over Jhenidah yesterday.

The winners took the lead after 34 minutes through Sumon in the zonal final at the Chuadanga Stadium but the visitors came back with a 73rd-minute equaliser by Hakim.

However, Zahid sealed the victory for the hosts two minutes from the long whistle.

Chuadanga join Naogaon, Dhaka, Comilla, Chittagong, Bhola, Nilphamari, Bangladesh Army, Dhaka University and automatic qualifiers hosts Natore and defending champions Noakhali in the 12-team final round which will now begin on May 21 instead of 16.

The remaining qualifiers will be decided from the Brahmaputra-zone where Gazipur and Kishore-ganj face off in the first semifinal today. The other semifinal will pit Narayanganj against Tangail, who won their yesterday's match against Sherpur 3-1.
