Robbery attempt foiled: One shot

A cashier of a motor parts shop was shot when police fired gunshots at robbers at Abdullahpur in the city yesterday.

Bullet-hit cashier Abdul Aziz, 25, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and released after first aid, hospital sources said.

Four armed miscreants riding two motorbikes tried to stop the microbus of Shahidullah, manager of Asian Petrol Pump, when he was going to Mercantile bank at Abdullahpur to deposit Tk 5.5 lakh at about 12:10pm.

Uttara police patrol team led by sub-inspector Rawshan Ali chased the gang. At one-stage they fired gunshots at the gang members but a bullet missed its target and hit the throat of Abdul Aziz, cashier of Anwara motors. Aziz was reading a newspaper in front of his shop.

The gang members fled through Jasimuddin Road.

The officer-in-charge of Uttara Police Station questioned the manager of the petrol pump.
