Psycho: A hair raising tale

Hollywood films are often based on the theme of a man's psychological disorders at its worst. But TV dramas in our country have seldom dealt with this subject. Today, however, ntv airs one such drama, titled Psycho, at 8.50 pm. Directed by young Rakibul Hassan, the drama has raised interest among TV viewers at the different stages of its production.

Written by Rumana Afroz, Psycho deals with a psychoneurotic person living in the house of Saif and his wife Samira. The couple has a son from Saif's first wife Zabin, who was, in fact, Samira's elder sister. Apart from them, a caretaker and a guard also live in the house. Mysterious incidents often take place in the house, which incidentally frighten Samira. Dead people call on the phone; puzzling e-mails are found on the computer; blood comes out from taps; chandeliers suddenly collapse from the ceiling! Saif's first wife Zabin committed suicide in this house. Is there any connection between these awesome incidents and her unnatural death?

Saif contacts a psychiatrist Dr Alif and brings him to the house. One day the ceiling fan in Alif's room falls down; he narrowly escapes an accident. The caretaker of the house seems an obscure character to him. Dr Alif starts observing everyone very keenly in the house. Finally, he finds out that all these were the activities of a neurotic patient. Who is that psycho?

Obviously, the story line has some startling features that will keep the viewers' attention till the end. And the plot is surely further enhanced by the acting of popular performers like Khaled Khan as Saif, Shampa Reza as Samira, and Lutfor Rahman George as the psychiatrist. After quite a long time Khaled Khan makes a comeback to the small screen through this play. The drama also features another once-popular actress Nusrat Yasmin Tisa, who plays Saif's first wife in the drama. Other performers of the drama are Chanchal Khan, Mojibur Rahman Hasu, Harunur Rashid and child artiste Rasayet Amir Rafi.

The drama features some special sound effects that have helped create the eerie atmosphere fit for such stories.
