Ahsanullah Killing
Four suspects sent to jail

Four suspects in Awami League lawmaker Ahsanullah Master assassination case were sent to jail yesterday on expiry of their six-day police remand.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police took Nasiruddin, Suman, Oli Mian and Qaiyum, all alleged drug peddlers of Tongi, to a first class magistrate's court in Gazipur yesterday.

Since the four-member CID team currently probing Ahsanullah's assassination did not submit fresh remand petition, the court sent them to jail.

The accused were arrested at Tongi on the night of May 11, four days after the killing of the legislator at a political rally in Tongi.

During interrogation, the four told police that they maintained contact with criminals in the capital, especially in Badda area.

Police suspect the criminals might have taken part in the daylight armed attack on Ahsanullah that also killed a schoolboy and injured at least five others.

The CID recorded statements of four in Tongi yesterday, but could not arrest any other suspects.

Accused Mahbub, Monir, Dulal and Kabir Hossain, a North Badda landlord who gave shelters to them, are now under police remand.

A team of police yesterday left for Natore to arrest an accused who is reportedly hiding in the district.
