European Player of the Year Pavel Nedved leads a strong Czech Republic side to the Euro 2004 finals next month. Czech Republic coach Karel Brueckner sprang no surprises when he named his squad on Wednesday with Juventus star Nedvev in a formidable midfield lineup that includes Borussia Dortmund's Tomas Rosicky, former Manchester United man Karel Poborsky, now with Sparta Prague, and Liverpool's Vladimir Smicer. Brueckner included Champions League finalists Monaco midfielder Jaroslav Pasil and Banik Ostrava striker Miroslav Matusovic in a 24-man squad he will cut to 23 on June 2. "Pasil has had an outstanding season with Monaco and Matusovic got the nod on Tuesday night," Brueckner said. "The core of the side has been known for some time." He said the late decision on Matusovic, who helped Banik Ostrava win the Czech championship, did not mean the striker would automatically be dropped when he finalised the squad. "We have to see how things go in training," he said. Brueckner takes his squad to Seefeld in Austria for a training camp which includes a work-out against a Third Division Austrian club on May 30. The Czechs play Bulgaria in a warm-up on June 2 at Prague and Estonia on June 6 at Teplice before leaving for Portugal where they face Germany, Holland and Latvia in their first round group. They play Latvia on June 15, Holland on June 19 and Germany on June 23. The squad : Goalkeepers: Petr Cech, Jaromir Blazek, Antonin Kinsky; defenders: Rene Bolf, Zdenek Grygera, Tomas Huebschman, Marek Jankulovski, Martin Jiranek, Pavel Mares, David Rozehnal, Tomas Ujfalusi; midfielders: Tomas Galasek, Pavel Nedved, Jaroslav Plasil, Karel Poborsky, Tomas Rosicky, Vladimir Smicer, Roman Tyce, Stepan Vachousek; strikers: Milan Baros, Marek Heinz, Jan Koller, Vratislav Lokvenc, Miroslav Matusovic.
