UEFA Euro 2004 Portugal
Inzaghi misses out

Italy coach Giovanni Trapatonni on Tuesday named a provisional 23-man squad for the Euro 2004 football finals starting next month but without Filippo Inzaghi and Alberto Gilardino.

AC Milan striker Inzaghi underwent surgery on his left ankle last month after an injury-plagued season for the 30-year-old.

Parma's under-21 international Gilardino has had a good season scoring 19 Serie A goals, but Trapatonni has opted instead to call in Juventus Marco Di Vaio as the sixth and final striker in the group.

The remainder of the group is without surprise with stars Christian Vieri, Gigi Buffon, Alessandro Nesta, Fabio Cannavaro, Francesco Totti, Alex Del Piero and Antonio Cassano all present.

In defence, Giuseppe Favalli has been brought in ahead of midfielder Massimo Ambrosini.

The final list will be sent to European football's governing body UEFA on June 2 ahead of the championship which starts on June 13.

Italy are in Group C with Denmark, Sweden and Bulgaria.

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon, Francesco Toldo, Angelo Peruzzi; defenders: Cristian Panucci, Alessandro Nesta, Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Zambrotta, Massimo Oddo, Matteo Ferrari, Marco Materazzi, Giuseppe Favalli; midfielders: Stefano Fiore, Simone Perrotta, Cristiano Zanetti, Mauro German Camoranesi, Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo; strikers: Christian Vieri, Francesco Totti, Alessandro del Piero, Bernardo Corradi, Antonio Cassano, Marco di Vaio.
