Police killed 2 during Nandail poura polls: Probe report

A probe report yesterday accused police of killing two people during violence related to Nandail Municipal Corporation (NMC) polls on May 9.Private legal aid organisations Ain O Shalis Kendro and Bangladesh Legal Aid Services Trust carried out the joint investigation, which was released yesterday. To disperse a crowd, police opened fire on local people who were protesting law enforcers' alleged misbehaviour with a woman voter at Achargaon polling centre, the report said. A police officer kicked Abu Taher, 40, trampled under people's feet, during the incident him and he died. Another teenage boy, 16, Sujan, was critically injured with bullet and he died at local hospital. After the incident the police held at least 20 people including villagers, human rights activists and lawyers, the report said. Following the incident most villagers specially males of two wards, 6 and 7, are on running to avoid police arrest as police administration has filed case accusing 300 to 400 local people of the violence, the probe report said.
