Half-day hartal observed in Badarganj

People of Badarganj observed a half-day hartal yesterday demanding arrest of those who illegally occupied a house at Kutubpur after attacking the family members residing in the house.

All shops and commercial establishments remained closed and all kinds of transports stayed off the roads during the eight-hour shutdown till 2.00pm.

Local people alleged that one Abul Kalam Azad and his son Lavlu Miah of village Nagerhat attacked the family members of Nibaran Mohanto and grabbed their house on Monday night.

Anjali Rani, wife of Mohanto, was seriously injured in the attack. She is now undergoing treatment at Badarganj Upazila Health Complex.

However, police arrested Mohanto on the same night after the attackers lodged a case against him under Women and Child Repression Prevention Act.

The arrest of Mohanto prompted the people to call the hartal.
