Miraculous escape

A deadly bomb hit British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Anwar Choudhury in the abdomen. Two people were killed and many more seriously injured, but the diplomat survived the attack with minor injuries by miracle.

The attack came after Choudhury was on his way out of Hazrat Shahjalal Shrine in Sylhet after offering Friday prayers at the 700-year-old heritage.

After an attacker hurled the powerful bomb at him, it fell on the ground a few feet away, ricocheting off his abdomen. A big bang rocked the area in seconds, inflicting the huge casualties.

Religious devotees who attended the prayers at the shrine with the Bangladesh-born British diplomat said Choudhury was the target.

"He is the luckiest man. What a disaster would have happened, if it had exploded on him?" a witness wondered.
