A Dhaka court yesterday asked the officer-in-charge (OC) of Keraniganj Police Station to explain in seven days why a case was filed on charge of assaulting a man who died 14 years ago.

The Court of Additional District Magistrate Abu Taleb gave the order following a petition lodged by the defence lawyers of the assault case.

Defence lawyers placed relevant documents before the court in support of the victim's death 14 years ago.

Moving the petition, they said Fazar Ali died 14 years ago. However, Mohammad Delwar Hossain of Keraniganj filed the assault case with Keraniganj Police Station accusing their six clients on February 13 last year.

The OC Mustafizur Rahman, also investigation officer of the case, pressed charges against the accused on July 22 last year, they added.
