Bangladesh to introduce ISPS Code before deadline

Bangladesh has completed its preparations much earlier before the expiry of the deadline for complying with a globally applicable unified safety and security code for port and shipping sectors known as ISPS Code, official sources said yesterday.

ISPS Code is an obligation set earlier by International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) yesterday formally introduced IMO formulated International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code through a function.

Shipping Minister Akbar Hossain as well as experts on shipping sector also announced at the function that Bangladesh is now capable of detecting and defeating any security threat on maritime sectors.

"It is a matter of pride that Chittagong Port is going to recognise as a safe port in the international arena through the successful introduction of ISPS Code,” the minister said.
