Bus accident in Pakistan kills 37

At least 37 passengers were killed when a packed minibus careened off a bridge into a dry river bed on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital early yesterday, police said.

The bus was on a routine morning run from Kallar Sayyida village to Rawalpindi, neighbouring Islamabad, just after 6:00 am when it crashed and fell some 20 meters (65 feet), police officer Mehboob Aslam said.

"Some 37 people have died in the accident and eight others are wounded," Aslam told AFP.

Aslam said the bus fell off the bridge after it was hit by a tractor.

Rescuers have pulled bodies and survivors from the wreckage.
