JMJB atrocity reappears

Much in the same way as the Bangla Bhai's force, a newly formed village 'peace-keeping' body yesterday killed an outlawed political operative after publicly putting him on its hit list.

The 19-member Shanti Raksha Committee in Kujail village under Raninagar upazila was formed recently after activities of Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB) came to a stop on June 8.

Police and family sources said some committee members led by Khairul Islam Montu picked up Afzal Hossain Hirok, a Sarbahara Party activist, from his sister's house Wednesday night. The committee earlier made Hirok's name public as being on its hit list, sources added.

Locals said they found Hirok's body yesterday morning lying on the ground near a culvert and rushed him to Baragachha Police Station. Police took him to Naogaon Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
