Six in Asian Basketball

Six teams including Bangladesh have confirmed their participation in the qualifying round of the FIBA-Asia fourth Basketball Championship that will be held in Dhaka from July 22-24.

The Bangladesh Basketball Federation under the guidance of the Middle-Asia Zone-A sub-committee of FIBA-Asia will organise the meet.

Secretary of the Bangladesh Basketball Federation (BBF) Salim Chowdhury said that India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and hosts Bangladesh will be taking part in the biggest ever international basketball tournament in the country.

Pakistan said that it was not possible for them to take part, while Nepal and Bhutan failed to give any reply to the invitations of BBF.

Salim said, "We want to hold this international meet at our Dhan-mondi Woodenfloor Gymnasium because it will be cost-effective. But the condition of this court is in bad shape.

"Renovation of the court has just begun. After lifting the wood we will be able to know the real condition."
