Five policemen suspended for assaulting journos


Five jail policemen have been withdrawn and suspended for torturing two journalists in Satkhira jail office, Sardar Abdus Salam, DIG (Prisons), Jessore, said here yesterday.

The policemen are Havildar Shafiul Alam, constables Salahuddin, Badsha Mia, Jahandar Hossain, and Shamim Imran.

Talking to newsmen during a visit to the jail, the DIG said a process is underway to take departmental action against Jailer Shamsul Alam and Deputy Jailer Masud Parvez

Two Satkhira journalists Muzaffar Rahman and Monirul Islam Moniwere tortured in Satkhira jail office on June 22.

They filed a case against the jailer, deputy jailer and the five policemen with Satkhira Sadar Police Stationin.

Besides, five convicts, also involved in torturing the journalists, were also included in the list of the accused. The DIG (prisons), however, made an order to transfer them to other jail.

Meanwhile, journalists of Satkhira have submitted a memorandum to the home minister and the IGP (Prisons) to take necessary action against the persons involved.
