S'pore agrees to train Rab
UNB, Dhaka
Singapore, an Asian economic tiger having reputation for strict law enforcement, yesterday agreed to arrange in that country training for Bangladeshi police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) to enable them to fight serious crimes. A proposal for the training came from the Bangladesh side at a meeting between visiting Singaporean Home Minister Wong Kan Seng and State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar at the latter's office. At the meeting, the two ministers agreed to widen cooperation in curbing the growing menace of terrorism. They stressed holding secretary-level meeting in both the countries, exchange of visit of police and Rab, and prevention of woman and child trafficking. The meeting also stressed the need for introducing "Container Scanning System" for preventing smuggling, particularly illegal arms and drugs trade. Wong Kan Seng agreed to relax the visa procedure for Bangladeshis who go to Singapore for treatment, tour or for any other purpose, officials said.
