Revolver of state minister's gunman snatched

A gang yesterday snatched a licensed revolver and its bullets from the gunman of State Minister for Environment and Forest Zafrul Islam Chowdhury at Kamlapur in Motijheel.The gang of four to five youths waylaid Abdus Sattar, assistant-sub inspector of Special Branch (SB) of police, near Peer Jangi Mazar at about 6:10am when he was going to receive the minister at Kamlapur Railway Station, police said. They took away his licensed revolver, eight bullets and a magazine, police added. The state minister was scheduled to arrive at Kamlapur Railway Station from Chittagong in a train. "One of the youths pointed a pistol at my forehead, two brandished machete and home-made bombs while another forcibly snatched my 7.62 revolver, magazine, ammunition and my purse with Tk 150 and some important documents," Sattar said in a FIR (first information report) filed with Motijheel Police Station. "The criminals, aged between 18 and 22, hurled a bomb when I cried for help and left the scene," he added. The police official said a gang member also attempted to snatch his walkie-talkie, but retreated as he threw it away, causing damage to the set. Police failed to arrest anybody till 7:30pm.
