Windies 39-0

West Indies were 39 without loss after 10 overs when play resumed following a rain stoppage in the one-day international against New Zealand at Edgbaston on Saturday.

The number of overs were cut to 21 per side having earlier been reduced to 35 from the allotted 50 after play began more than three hours late.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl and although West Indies made a slow start, opener Chris Gayle quickly settled and hit a string of controlled shots which raced to the rope.

Gayle was 23 not out off 30 balls with Shivnarine Chanderpaul eight not out from 30 deliveries.

The first match of the triangular tournament between England and New Zealand at Old Trafford on Thursday was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain.
