Mohsin Jute Mills closed

Privately-owned Mohsin Jute Mills in Khulna was closed yesterday morning after the management issued the notice to shutdown the loss-ridden mill at 11:30pm on Friday.

Some 1,500 workers, employees and officials of the mill have become jobless due to closure of the mill which was once a profit-making export-oriented industry.

The mill’s General Manager Anwarul Momin said the mill has become a losing concern. "We are not able to pay wages of workers and outstanding electricity bills of over Tk 31 lakh due to severe financial crisis," he said.

He further said the mill has no running capital and it is burdened with huge bank loans.

Meanwhile, workers and employees have demanded reopening of the jute mill.
