15-day painting exhibition begins

A 15-day painting exhibition with 658 selected works from 34 countries, including Asia, Africa, North America and Europe, began at the Shishu Academy yesterday.Khurshid Jahan Haque, Minister for Women and Children Affairs, inaugurated the exhibition at a function at the Ziaur Rahman auditorium of the academy. Bangladesh Shishu Academy organised the exhibition to mark the 3rd Biennial International Children Art Competition-2004. A total of 13,910 paintings from 34 countries from Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and host Bangladesh took part in the competition. Jury board headed by Dr Abdus Sattar, Director, Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, selected 658 paintings from biennial for the exhibition. The exhibition will remain open to the public from 11 am to 6:30 pm till July 10. Earlier, Khurshid Jahan distributed prizes among the winners of the biennial competition at a function at the academy followed by musical soiree. The competitors have been divided into six groups. One best painting was selected from each group. The best painters were given gold medals. The second best painters got silvers and the third best painters received bronzes.
