They were Kabir Hossain alias Liton Mridha, 28, senior vice-president and Ziaul Hossain Swapan, 26, general secretary.

They were undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Kabir said, "We were having breakfast in a hotel at Cherag Ali Market at 11:30am when two unknown youths entered the hotel and grabbed Swapan to drag him out of the hotel. As I resisted the youths, they stabbed us and fled the scene."

Kabir received stabs in his stomach and face while Swapan in his neck.

Locals chased the youths and held one Sourav, 23, from in front of Kaderia Cotton Mills and handed him over to police.

Police, however, could not give any details about the incident.

No case was filed till filing of the report at 7:15pm.
