Copa Libertadores
Once a Surprise

Once Caldas became only the second Colombian club to win the South American championship when they beat holders Boca Juniors of Argentina 2-0 in a penalty shoot-out in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final here Thursday.

The match finished 1-1. The first leg in Buenos Aires was goalless.

John Viafara opened the score for Once in the seventh minute and Nicolas Burdisso drew Boca level on 52 minutes.

Elkin Soto and Jorge Agudelo scored from the penalty spot for Once while Boca players Rolando Schiavi, Raul Cascini, Nicolas Burdisso and Franco Cangele all missed.

Atletico Nacional, who also won a penalty shoot-out in the 1989 final, are the only other Colombian side to have won the Copa.
